A Surprise Visit From A Cheetah
Created By Cawston Encounters
An Unexpected Sighting

There’s been a huge wave of excitement at Cawston Encounters!
Our trail camera, usually busy capturing images of leopards and other wildlife, recorded a very special guest – a magnificent male cheetah, not seen in this area for many years.
It’s moments like these that remind us of the beauty and surprises that the African bush has to offer. Every snapshot from the wild tells a story, and this particular one feels especially significant for our conservation efforts.
A New Cheetah For The Conservation Project

It’s been confirmed: this cheetah is new to the nationwide database, making this sighting even more exciting. We hope he decides to settle in the area and thrive at Cawston.
Sadly, cheetah numbers in Zimbabwe are declining rapidly and urgently need protection. Sightings like this are crucial for understanding their movements and improving conservation strategies.
If you happen to see a cheetah during your travels (especially outside national parks), please report it to the Cheetah Conservation Project Zimbabwe.
The Cheetah Conservation Project Zimbabwe, founded in 2012 by Dr. Esther van der Meer, focuses on:
- Research & data collection
- Education and community outreach
Collaboration and capacity building
Your contribution can make a real difference in preserving this endangered species.
How You Can Help

Every sighting counts. Whether you’re a guest at Cawston or exploring Zimbabwe’s wild spaces, you can play a role in protecting these magnificent cats.
Tip: Keep your camera ready and log any sightings with conservation projects. Your efforts support vital research and help secure a future for cheetahs in Zimbabwe.
We hope you enjoy these incredible images as much as we do!
