A Holistic Approach To A Working Ranch
Learn about how we manage a small working ranch within a protected wildlife sanctuary using a holistic approach blending conservation with agriculture.
Conservation With Agriculture
We dedicate a small portion of our wildlife land to a working ranch with cattle, goats, and sheep managed under a holistic grazing system. This approach supports regenerative land use, benefiting wildlife in our limited space. Without buffalo due to regional veterinary policies, we use high-density grazing cattle to replicate their ecological impact, mimicking how large herds move under natural pressure.
Goats complement this system by opening dense bush and enhancing soil activity alongside the cattle. Holistic grazing has numerous environmental benefits, including breaking moribund grass, trampling shrubs, and enriching the soil with concentrated nutrients from dung and urine. These actions improve soil quality, reduce runoff, and prevent erosion, ensuring sustainable land use.
A small calf-friendly herd also produces fresh dairy for in-house use. Guests can visit the livestock and learn about our farming practices, a popular activity for families and groups. This hands-on experience offers insight into our sustainable ranch operations, blending conservation with agriculture.
